Required Qualifications : A Master’s degree in Social Work or a closely related field of study from an accredited institution with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate credit hours in a secondary discipline (Psychology or Sociology). A commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment. Preferred: Ph.D. in a closely related field of study. Previous teaching experience in higher education is preferred. Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by the Human Resources Department.

Salary: $65,790 to $72,420 (DOE)

Position Summary:

The Social Science Department at Southeast New Mexico College is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Social Work Instructor to join our team. This is a full-time, grant-funded position contingent upon continued grant funding, beginning Fall 2025.

Southeast New Mexico College is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and resourceful Social Worker to join our vibrant academic community. The ideal candidate will not only provide support and guidance to students but also have the ability to teach courses in related disciplines. This is a unique opportunity for professionals passionate about education, student success, and interdisciplinary learning.

The faculty member hired in this position is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities to promote student-centered learning and success. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, holding office hours, serving on various committees, and demonstrating a commitment to professional development through participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities, and organizations. As the faculty member strives for success in this role, their supervisor will provide guidance, feedback, and support.

Requirements for the Position:

Will be assigned to teach on a 9-month contract of 15 credit hours per semester. Carries out a 5/5 teaching load of 100- and 200-level classes. Holds regular office hours in accordance with the policies established in the Faculty Manual. Teaching duties include teaching college courses effectively to a diverse student body, conducting ongoing assessments of courses, and developing courses. College service commitments include participating in professional development activities and serving on various committees for the benefit of Southeast New Mexico College. Evaluates student performance and instructional methods using the college’s established system of assessment. Serves as a member of the college’s various governance committees and task forces to promote institutional/instructional efficiency and support a culture of learning. Collaborates with other departments on interdisciplinary projects, campus events, and instructional training. Attends scheduled faculty meetings, department meetings, required training, and committee meetings at SENMC. Performs other duties as assigned. Since this position requires in-person teaching and other in-person faculty duties, the candidate will be required to live within commuting distance of SENMC located in Carlsbad, NM.

  • Delivers in person classroom instruction that supports the learning outcomes of the Social Work courses and teach at least one additional discipline, such as Psychology or Sociology.

  • Evaluates student performance and instructional methods using the college’s established system of assessment.

  • Serves as a member of the college’s various governance committees and task forces to promote institutional/instructional efficiency and support a culture of learning.

  • Holds regular office hours in accordance with the policies established in the Faculty Manual or is available for parents and students as needed.

  • Collaborates with other departments on interdisciplinary projects, campus events, and instructional training.

  • Attends scheduled faculty meetings, department meetings, required training, and committee meetings.

  • Stays abreast of trends, advancements, and changes within the social work field; adjusts curriculum to align with industry changes and workforce demands.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
