Job Summary
Do you love working with kids, enjoy being active, and spending time outside? Kelsey Creek and Robinswood Day Camps are seeking camp counselors and substitute counselors for our 2025 summer camps. Day camp counselors supervise and lead children ages 4-13 through themed games, sports, crafts, songs, hikes, and activities planned by our camp leads. You will work independently and as a team to provide a safe and supportive environment for campers and Counselors in Training.

AGES: 15+ DURATION AND HOURS: Full time counselors work between 32-40 hours a week with hours varying between 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday-Friday. Substitute counselors work variable hours depending on shift coverage needs.

WAGE: $16.28-$22.46 per hour, D.O.E.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Independently supervise and manage a group of children. Employ behavior modification techniques as needed.
  • Lead and participate in a variety of scheduled program activities including active games, crafts, and other activities. Modify activities as needed so they are age and ability appropriate for all campers.
  • Keep track of and manage campers' allergies, dietary restrictions, and other concerns.
  • Efficiently communicate concerns, injuries, and incidents to supervisors.
  • Support the planning, preparation, and coordination of scheduled activities.
  • Be flexible and able to plan activities on the spot.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and attractive camp area.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment.
  • Be open, friendly, and approachable to campers, parents, Counselors in Training, members of the public, and other staff.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in pre-camp training and weekly meetings. Staff must attend all staff meetings and trainings.
  • Set a good example for campers in all areas, including cleanliness, punctuality, clean-up chores, rules, and sportsmanship.
  • Meet/communicate regularly with supervisors regarding concerns, updates, and challenges.
  • Provide a safe environment for participants and respond quickly to emergencies.
  • Assist with program set-up and take-down.

Qualifications


  • Passionate about working with children.
  • Experience in leading or working with children, preferably in a camp environment.
  • Must be enthusiastic, energetic, reliable, trustworthy, and remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to be sensitive and responsive to the needs of all the campers.
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple distractions and competing priorities.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to being hired.
  • Must possess First Aid/CPR certification prior to start date.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to physically play and demonstrate active games, work with arts and crafts materials.
  • Indoor and outdoor recreational environment subject to noise that varies from low to high, distractions, seasonal heat, adverse weather conditions and periodic interruptions.
  • Exposure to extended periods of direct sunlight and/or cool and damp weather is possible.
  • Strong stamina and ability to keep up with campers.
  • Ability to perform work that is strenuous and/or repetitive.
  • Work involves talking, hearing, walking, running, and using hands to manipulate, feel, and operate objects. Ability to reach with hands and arms. Fine motor skills.
  • Near and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 60 pounds.
  • Employee may be required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
  • Ability to work with large groups of individuals including children, teens, and adults.

Supplemental Information
This is a Seasonal position. Definition of a Seasonal Employee:
  • Must be pre-approved by Human Resources to ensure compliance with the legislation
  • Regularly scheduled to work up to 40 hours per week for which the customary annual employment is six months or less
  • "Customary" means that the nature of the position typically lasts for six months or fewer and that the period of employment begins at approximately the same time each year
  • NOTE : Will be considered full-time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12-month measurement period (or 130 hours per month)

This position runs June 16 - August 15, Monday - Friday. No camp July 4 due to the holiday.Time-off Policy for full-time camp counselors: Time-off will not be allowed during the first two weeks of camp, June 23-July 3. Staff can request up to 5 days off after July 7th. Vacation requests must be submitted by email no later than June 17th. If your availability does not work with this policy, you will still be considered for a part-time substitute counselor position. Please indicate whether you would like to be considered for a full-time counselor position or a substitute position.
