Job Description

Mail Clerk I

Primary Purpose:
The Mail Clerk I is responsible for processing, sorting and distributing daily mail.

Essential Functions:
  • Pickup and deliver University mail daily.
  • Sorts incoming U.S. mail and campus mail.
  • Sorts and delivers incoming packages to departments.
  • Sells stamps and supplies.
  • Provides customer service in the mailroom to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • One (1) year of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in mail services.
  • Excellent vehicle operation skills, customer service skills, and ability to learn campus facilities/map.
  • Basic equipment maintenance and operation skills.
  • Knowledge of shipping procedures and postal regulations, and data entry skills.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work is performed in mail room/warehouse environment. May be exposed to varying temperatures. Constant standing, lifting, stretching, reaching and bending. Occasional climbing of steps and/or stairs. Ability to lift and carry up to seventy pounds.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work performed during standard business hours.

Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.

Hiring Range: $18.55 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
